I'm new to this forum, and I was wondering if any of you guys had a hunting load that you like in your 10fp.(308) I know that no two rifles shoot just alike, but it will help me find a good starting point.

thanks

I've been using 43 grains of Varget with the Sierra 168 Gr. Matchking with good success in this 10-FP. It is a box stock rifle. It's been a good combination that has delivered very good accuracy. I seat the bullets about .020 to .040 off the lands. For brass I've been using both Remington and Lapua. I've seen no improvement in the Lapua in regards to accuracy. The Remington brass delivers accuracy that is just as good, in many cases even better. You could simply substitute the standard 165 gr. Game King for hunting purposes. Bill T.

I loaded up some of these for a buddy that has a Savage 308.
125 gr Nosler ballistic tip, 46 grs IMR 4895, WW case, CCI BR2 primer and COAL 2.742.
I use this load in my custom Rem 700 Heart barrel for deer and with over 25 deer shot from 50 to 500 yards all have dropped in their tracks.
My buddy was trying all sorts of 150 to 165 gr bullets and was having problems having deer run off a ways after a good shot was put on them. It was thick woods and ruff NC mountain land where he hunted and you could loose a deer quickly in that place. You might find somebody else tag on it when you did find it.
He now has no more trailing up of deer to do. He has killed 5 or 6 deer with the above load and all have dropped in their tracks like I told him they would do. This load shoots well under 1" at 100 yards in his rifle.

I run 150 sierra gamekings over 47 grains of Varget in my 10fp for mule deer and elk here in Colorado, The deer have all been one shot kills with no tracking required, the elk I sot twice so it wouldnt get away from me in the dark timber. This load shoots right at an inch at 200 yards im my rifle.

Pick your favorite powder that almost fills the cases (work up your loads) and put a 168 gr AMax on top.

I'm trying to get a good hunting load together for my 10FLP (unmodified except for the McMillan HTG stock). Since they've got to feed from the magazine (2.915 maximum LOAL) I'm using 0.085 jump to the lands. I'd like to get the velocity up to about 2680 fps so I've got a little more work to do before deer rifle season next month.

Five shots at 200 yards (about 1.6 inch). Rifle is sighted in at 100 yards.

My hunting load compared to Federal GMM. I'm having to use more Reloader 15 than most books recommend but I'm making up for the longer loaded length.

Bullet: Nosler 168 gr. Ballistic Tip
Powder: Alliant Reloader 15 45.5 grs
Primer: Federal 210
Case: Winchester (6th Firing)
LOAL: 2.895 (2.273 Base to Ogive)
Average Velocity: 2644 fps
Extreme Spread: 13.79
Standard Deviation: 5.19

Bullet: Federal Premium Gold Medal Match w/ Sierra 168 gr. BTHP
LOAL: 2.800 (2.230 with Stoney Point)
Average Velocity: 2648.13 fps
Extreme Spread: 25.99
Standard Deviation: 11.13
