Two Questions:

I acquired a Savage 16 Weather Warrior in a 300wsm for a steal.

I'm looking at rebarreling it into a .338 rcm. The reason for the 338 is I've always wanted to build a .338 edge, but i'd want something as a repeater. Knowing there is -possible- issues of strength with the standard 110 action, i've just not built it. I picked up the 300wsm thinking i'd build a single shot 338 edge, but the more i think about it, the more i really want a repeater. So i'm compromising, at this point, with the .338 rcm.

If i rebarrel it, will the bolt head stay the same? Also, it currently has a centerfeed blind mag. Being i'd be shooting the short action magnums, would it make sense to convert it to a detachable mag?

Last Question: If you don't like the .338 rcm, what other cool calibers would fit well in a short action large shank?

Thanks,

The BH for the WSM will fit the RCM rim. Everything should work with the exception of the need to modify the mag feed lips to hold the smaller diameter case. Nice Choice BTW. It holds about 8-10 grains less than the WSM case.
