Savage 1903 Safety Mechanism

Hi,
I'm new to this site and forum. I'm trying to bring back to life a Savage 1903 pump, serial # 74336. I'm having some issues with the safety spring/connector bar/trigger relationship. Is this a common issue? Where can I get info on fitting, adjustments, etc? I've searched the threads and couldn't find anything. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Sav22 that was some great information. I was given one of these rifles and its missing the safety spring so wasn't sure how it went together. Would the safety spring in a 1914 work with the 1903? I have been having a hard time finding a safety spring for the 1903. If anyone knows or knows where I can buy one Please let me know. Thanks again for the link. John
