6.5 CM barrel twist rate suggestions

Going to have my rifle re barreled and was wondering what you guys thought.

I use this rifle for long range target shooting only and primarily use heavier bullets 140 and above, would not go below a 130 grain projectile.

Rifle is 10 BA Stealth in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 1:8 twist

considering getting a 1:7 or 1:7.5 twist barrel to allow for longer/heavier projectiles as they come out such as the 150 SMK.

what are your guys thoughts?

If you plan on using the 150s then you should get a 7.5-7 twist. But if using the 147 and down then an 8 twist will work fine. Make sure to get a good length as well if you are looking for some extra velocity as well.

I see no reason to shoot any heavier than the 142/143 out of a Creed.

With a longer barrel you can get the 147 ELDs with a .697 BC moving out at a good rate of speed. It will do a little better in the wind and might even shot flatter depending on lighter bullet. My 147 load at 2820fps is flatter to 1000 than my 140 load at 2850fps. Whether someone wants this or not is up to them.

I go with what Rob said.

The 143 ELD-X stabilizes fine with a 1:8" in my .260 REM (6.5 CM's kissing cousin). Haven't played with a 147 gr, but I have the 156 gr Norma Oryx and out to 250 yards that is great as well (haven't tried further . . . no point for that bad boy).

The 1:7.5" might be fun to try. Many 6.5 x 55mm were 1:200mm . . . or 1:7.87". Be REALLY fun to go with that.

I'm leaning towards the 1:7.5. I think a gain twist to a final twist of 7.5 would be cool but I only know of one person who does gain twist in Canada and not even sure if there in the business anymore.

Then stick with a simpler resolution and get a standard twist rifling from a good barrel maker.

A few clicks don't count for much, but accuracy does.
There all good to a point, but there comes a point that requires more horsepower, and not just a barrel or bullets to get beyond.

You can have accuracy and speed. I do in both above.
