:confused:Was starting the process to load some Hornady brass for the SIL's 308. Got time to prime and they wouldn't go in the pocket, not even start! OK,what's going here(head scratch). Measured the ID of the pocket and it showed .203-.204 range with the OD of a LR primer at .210-.211. No wonder they wouldn't seat. Ended up using Win and FC brass with no issues. This was once fired Hornady Black ammo. I don't know whose primers they use but they had to be undersized. Been loading for over 30 yrs and never had this problem, except when they switched from large to small primers in 45 ACP. That one I figured out but it brought the Dillon to a screeching halt! Anyone else have this with Hornady brass?

Didn't some one make 308 brass with small primer pockets for awhile?

I guess a primer pocket uniformer won't fit either?

No. They only cut depth, not sides.

Just for grins and giggles try a crimp removal tool, I know of only two things that can cause your problem, crimped primer pockets or small rifle primer pockets.

The RCBS crimp removal tool below made for their case prep station only removes the crimp and does not touch the primer pocket side walls.

Meaning it will do nothing to a normal uncrimped primer pocket when the case contracts the face of the reamer.

I use a deburring tool for removing military crimps and it did not help in this case.

I have gotten some Hornady brass from some LEO friends and the primers were crimped. It was from the Hornady TAP ammo.

I'm starting to think this might be the case. I've checked the wall of the pocket with a pick and can't really feel an edge like a crimp. I ordered a Hornady LR crimp remover to see if that does it. Live and learn. I've read here and other sites where people have had the same issue. I guess since it could be used in a semiauto they crimp primers?

Had a few thousand once fired Hornady 308s and most all had a light crimp.

Got my Hornady tool today. Reamed all the pockets and now primers fit. A little tight, but they go in.

Remington, Most of what I have seen had a knurl at the base.

Lapua made some in 308 Palma. I have some and don't really see a difference accuracy wise. I guess you could run pressures a little higher though.

Better a little tight than a little loose.
