This past November I purchased a Model 12FV from Cabela's in 6.5 Creedmoor. After some thinking I have decided that I want a 6.5-284. Will I have any possible problems in installing the new caliber barrel? Feeding? I am not worried about bolt length since I would be installing a follower and the rifle will be a single shot.

You might have problems if you try to extract an unfired round, depending on the cartridge oal.

Just went out in the shop and "hooked" a 3.135 Coal 6.5-.284 to my short action model 10...Just made it. That was a 130 accubond seated .010 off for a model 116 savage. I believe you won't get it to eject with Bergers set close to the lands. Berger lists a coal of 3.228 for all there 6.5-.284 bullets and that is not at the lands. I have set up several singles shots with followers, if you pull the ejector you will still have to knock it off the extractor. Fine for empties but a PITA when you have to knock it free and then tip the rifle upside down to get a loaded round off the follower.
Thats my opinion for what its worth,
Randy

You'll be a lot better off using a long action for the 6.5-284. If you're looking to improve on the 6.5 CM, then your best bet with a short receiver is a .260 Rem. If you really want that 6.5-284 I will trade you a long action for your short action. By the way, the selection of stocks for a long action is much smaller than for the short action.
Good luck.

I thought that the 6.5 PRC was the better alternative in a sort action. I have not done so myself, but it seems just as fast as a 6.5 284 (or faster), but it is so new that you will have a hard time finding a barrel to fit a savage. Good luck
