I just finished my 2nd rebarrel, fitting an Axis .308 barrel to an older Stevens 200 action I have. The finished product shoots beautifully and I have no reason to ever remove that barrel at this point. Having said that, the proper headspace position for the barrel placed the manufacturer's stamped information straight down in the stock, so that you can't see any markings on the barrel at all. In one way, I was glad for that because it looks very clean, but on the other hand, there is no way to tell what caliber the rifle is now.

I intend to give this rifle to my son, and would like to know if anyone has stamped or otherwise indicated the caliber of a barrel on a rifle when the manufacturer's information was not visible? If so, what method worked best for you? Thanks.

I haven’t done so, but I imagine that stamping it shouldn’t be overly difficult. I don’t mind not having stamped bbls so I don’t bother.

You’ll probably want to fill in the stampings with something maybe even get away with a sharpie coloring.

Rusty, I have a Birchwood Casey bluing pen that works pretty well. I could just use a regular stamp and then dab it with that. Just figured I'd see if someone else had a better idea.

If I was the only person who would ever shoot the rifle, I wouldn't bother. But giving it to my son and the idea that he may loan it to a friend or whatever... it's an accident waiting to happen without any kind of barrel stamp.

The biggest trick with stamping is keeping things straight. For a one timer I would use the the local trophy shop and have it engraved.
