Hey guys
I'm new here and want to say thanks for having such an informative forum.
I just traded for a Model 10 .223 caliber heavy barreled synthetic stocked pre accutrigger rifle. According to the serial number it was made around 2002. Any idea what the twist rate might be? I've tried using a cleaning rod and tight patch but can't get it to work. Must not be holding my tongue right. Thanks in advance. Harold

They came in 2 twist basically, 9 and 12. The 7 twists came later and were model 12's I believe. Jim has graciously posted some of the Savage product catalogs on the forum so you could verify my claims. Her is a link to the mag I found in the History pages under FAQ's.

I don't know how you are going about using the rod but what happens with a right hand twist is that the head unscrews from the rod. You will need to tighten that junction and constantly keep an eye out for the slack in the threads.

You want a ‘tight’ fitting patch! You can measure while either pushing or return pulling the cleaning rod.

According to the fax page here, 1995 is when they switched to 1-9 twist.
