Looking for advice on twist rate for a 22" 308 barrel sufficient to stabilize 165 gr copper bullets (1.4 in long). 1:10 too loose? 1:8 too tight? Would appreciate any actual experience you can share. Thank you... raul

Id contact the manufacturer and ask for twist reccomendations.
Ive been to the Cutting Edge facility in PA, and the owner told me that his 300 gr 338 bullets wont properly stabilize in less than an 8 twist.
He even had doubts about his 250 gr in my 10 twist barrel, and he was right, they didn't work well.
No doubt other makers will offer like information on other cartridges.

I shoot the Barnes TTSX 168 grain bullet out of my 30-06 with a 10 twist just under 2800 fps... It's deadly on Elk.

Sorta like saying my Chevy runs well on Sunoco gas.
Fact is Chevys run well on any gas. lol
But long solid copper bullets wont shoot well in any twist barrel.

The guy asked for a twist rate recommendation based on experience for a 165 gr. copper bullet..... the TTSX is a copper bullet in a 168 grain in .308 caliber, my barrel is 22" long and has a 10 twist.
AND it does shoot well!!

Well if it's a solid copper bullet, then it's my bad for not realizing that.

10 twist is the standard for the 308 cartridge. The Savage model 12 F/TR has a 12 twist and will shoot Berger 185's well. 11.25 twist was known to shoot 168 SMKs very well. I think anything from 10-12 is fine for your purpose with 10 being the most popular..
