an acquaintance asked me about a gun her grandfather left her. I know nothing about Savage lever guns, so seeking some help. It looks to be a 99 from the pics. Any help as to age and value would be appreciate. She want to sell it as she does not like guns. thx

Here are her pics

Depending on the barrel length it's probably a 99B, 26" barrel, or a 99C 22" barrel. Made in 1930. A little oil and 0000 steel wool will clean up the rust spots! Check a few gun auction sites and see what they are selling for, but my guess would be about $600. Looks like a fine, unmolested original!!

It's an early 99F.

You can see the take down latch on the forearm.

Doesn't have a cresent butt to be a 99B and the serial number is to high for a 99C, plus the 99C would be a solid frame.

I saw that on the forearm but I wasn't sure if was a latch or not. I have one just like it then. A take down .30-30 with a Stith scope mount!

It's still got alot of original bluing but the rust is kind of a turn off, clean that up and you'll bring $500 easy.
