Savage build she has become a tack driver. Purchased a Savage 12fv Cabela's exclusive in 6.5 Creedmoor this past November. Rebarreled with e Arthur Brown accuracy Barrel and installed a Choate stock and have been to the range several times this winter as weather allows in Michigan to find a sweet spot. Think I am dialed in with 42. 2 grains of h4350. Using Sierra 143 grain seated very close to the lands. I have shot several groups around 3/4 inch to 1 inch but noticed the moment I put a gorilla hold on the front of the stock things immediately shrunk. I shot two groups today out of five that are about 1/4 to 3/8 Moa with a flyer that opens the group to 3/4 inch. These were five shot groups at 100 yards. For the first time I feel confident to move back to 200 yards. Being 72 years old I don't get excited about lots of stuff but this made me jump & Shout LOL. I am shooting with a lead sled because I have a pacemaker and need to be careful with too much recoil in my shoulder. I have been allowing the front of the gun to float in the rest. But no more. She likes a very firm hold.

This is one of the 1/4 moa groups shot today ignoring the flyer. 5 shots at 100 yds

It's just the start you know.

You'll be fiddling with loads till the cows come home lol

Life would be boring if we could get any rifle with any load to shoot bugholes.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM !

Thanks for the welcome. Much appreciated. Pls let me know if you can download the image above. I am struggling with this site trying to figure out how to post a picture. Some sites seem to require a rocket scientist to do simple things. LOL

Great to hear you are having such success. I swapped a barrel on my 12FV a while back and took off the factory 6.5 Creedmoor barrel without ever firing it. I went with a Shilen Select Match 28" bull barrel and put it in a HS Precision stock. I had the barrel threaded for my suppressor. I have only had it out one time and was very pleased with the accuracy. I only shot 30 rounds from it using a very spaced out ladder test on my crude bench and rest. I had to use my first 3 rounds to sight in. My other groups were all pretty good....at least for me. I had two very nice groups, with exception of a flyer on each. But, I think I all my groups, flyers included, could be covered with a dime at 123 yards.

It makes me wonder if much of this can be attributed to the 6.5 Creedmoor round. Is the hype real?

I am having the exact same experience with my model 12 BVSS re-barreled with a EABCO 6.5 CM accuracy barrel. NSS recoil lug and nut, Sightron III 8-36X56 scope. Shoots much better if I hold it real tight. 42.2 grains of H4350 and 142 SMK shoots very well all the way out to 1000 yds. Getting 2825 FPS with Hornaday brass, BR-2 primers. Only trouble is I need a spotter when shooting long distance steel, too much recoil to stay on target to see the hit. A brake would really help. If I decide to re-barrel, it'll be a 28 in Criterion with a blended brake.

Good luck and happy shooting!
