I was wondering if I went from 3006 to 6.5cm or 260 rem if I can still use my factory mag? Gun is bottom bolt release for stock replacement.

Or if it would be better to just load the 3006? Shooting mostly 600 yards maybe 1000 in future

Yes you can. I built my 260 off the 111 Trophy hunter in .270 Win. The mag still works great for the 260 cartridge. You can just load the 30-06 for out to 600 but the .260/6.5 has less drop @ 1000 yards, and will actually carry more energy to target outside 400 yards.

I also have the same 111 trophy hunter in 30-06 for my Elk rifle. I shoot the 168 Barnes TTSX at just under 2800 fps. I'd have to dial 35.5 MOA to get to 1000 Yards with it and it carries 517 ft. lbs of energy. The 260 carries 654 ft. lbs of energy and I have to dial 30.5 MOA for 1000 yards.

Thanks, the only time I think I'd be doing 1000 is at prs matches if I get into that. Or friends places. I'm also torn between that or bundling a 224 valkryie upper

If you're going to be using it for PRS, then I'd definitely, suggest going with the 6.5... Those matches are timed I believe and you're going to want the lowest recoil possible to better your chances on follow up shots or just shooting as fast and as accurately as possible. LONEWOLF on this site is a PRS competitor and uses the 6.5x47 now.

Additionally, The standard sporter barrel on the 111 trophy hunter isn't going to work for PRS competition. The barrel will heat up way too much after just 3-5 rounds to hold the accuracy you're going to need to compete.

If I kept it 3006 I was gonna go 224 valkryie or 6.5 grendal

If you are going to shoot PRS, I would not recommend a 6.5 Grendel. You would be giving up way too much to the competition. My brother used 260 his first year in PRS with a .243 backup. Last year he went 6.5x47 Lapua with his .243 as a backup. This year he has his 6.5x47 Lapua and the barrel should be shot half way through the season, and he already got a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel to replace it.
In short it seems like the 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5x47 Lapua, .243 and 260 are all great choices for PRS, but the 260 has a few things that make it not quite as advantageous for PRS and the Grendal really lags behind all of them.... a lot.

Yea most of my shooting is off a bench or prone. Might try 5he 06 as a long range bench gun first
