I have a Savage 29b .22 pump I bought as a project gun. I found a Youtube video detailing the take down procedure which proved very helpful. I know many of these guns were manufactured without serial numbers. The gun in the video had a full serial number on the lower front portion of the receiver, on the interior of the trigger assembly and visible only when the trigger assembly is removed and also underneath the butt plate.

I checked those 3 spots once I had my gun disassembled an found the capital letters of both "E" and "Q" (minus the quotation marks) in each of those spots.

Hoping someone can tell me what, if anything, those letters mean and if they are helpful in dating or providing any other info on the gun.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.

Bob

I think they're inspection stamps.

I think they're inspection stamps.

Thanks! I think you're correct. However with some guidance for another, I've found a code on the top of the barrel just in front of the receiver. The code is - 15L inside of a circle. The individual who helped me locate it said he believes the number 15 is the number that was assigned to the individual who inspected the gun and the L is an indication of being manufactured in 1960.

Any other opinions???

Thanks!

Yep, thats a date code and you got the correct info, 1960 it is. I never even thought about the date codes and I've seen them on my 29's as well, brain fart.
