Adding weight to the stock of an Edge

I removed the barrel from the stock of my son's Edge this morning and noticed
that the fore end of the stock has considerable hollow space under where the
barrel sits. I was thinking about adding some weight to the stock in these areas
to reduce the recoil a bit. Does anyone know of any reason why I would not
or should not do this?

I can't think of a reason not to. Figure where you want the weight and where it will affect the balance and then just mix up some epoxy and lead shot and have at it.

It depends, had friends break a stock by leading down Ultra mag. Just too much recoil.

How could adding material to an open void in the stock forend weaken it?

This is a 243, but the shooter is a young boy. I don't want his first experience with a
high-powered rifle to be bad. That could be a hard experience to "undo".

Does anyone have any feedback on the proper balance of the rifle? I found a post
on another forum that suggested that a rifle's CG should be near the recoil lug.

I like a COB of half way between my two hands on the pistol grip and on the forend and the usually come out somewhere midpoint between the two action screws.

I used steel epoxy putty to stiffen my stevens 200 stock. Its very clean and easy to press in to the hollows. I used a flat tool to make it smooth and neat.
