I've always been a Remington guy and own several model 700's. Over the years, Savages' have come and gone through my hands but none really stuck around for long. I have built a couple of target AR15's and recently wanted a 223, bolt, target rifle. Of course the 700 came to mind first. As I looked around, I saw a lot of positive reviews for late model Savage guns so I started to do a little more research (Thanks Savage Shooters!). After a lot of back and forth, I ended up having the LGS order me the model 12 LRPV, 223, 1 in 9 twist. When all was said and done, the HS Precision stock and the left port feature sold me. I mounted the Weaver 32 power scope in Warne mounts and started out at 100 yards with 10, Federal Gold Medal factory rounds with 69 grain Sierra match bullets. I knew it was going to work out when I fired 5, 2 shot sight in groups and all the groups had both bullets touching. If you put all of the groups one on top of the other, the 10 shot group would have been about 1/2 an inch. The next 5 shot group was fired with a load that I worked out for my AR's: 69 grain, Sierra TMK, 26.0 grains Varget (I know, it's a lot of Varget!) and Remington 7 1/2BR primers. The group below is this load. I think this is a really good start for an out of the box factory gun and I'm looking forward to working up some loads using brass tuned to the gun.

Had the exact same gun, but i spun a Criterion 6.5CM barrel on it. Here are the results of that, 10 rounds including the one that was me.

Welcome to the Barrel Nut Brotherhood !

Always good to hear someone gets a new Savage that shoots as good a custom rifle.

I don't think that flyer was your fault. You just got a bad primer or something!

I've put about 150 rounds through it so far mostly because the weather has been too foul to get more shooting in. I am really impressed so far. I have shot everything from 52 grain to 75 grain and I don't have a group over 3/4 of an inch. Like everyone else here, I like to tinker but I'm not sure how to improve on this gun. Thanks for looking.

Paint the stock some cool camo pattern or not.

Glad to see you're having good luck with your LRPV. I have owned several and have been uniformly happy with them. Both the .223s I have shoot amazingly small groups with a variety of bullets.
I just picked up the same receiver (right bolt, left port) and put a Shilen .260 Rem barrel on it. Shoots like a house on fire.
Good luck.
