I picked up 400 primers today, 200 CCI 250's and 200 Remington No. 91/2's. I know that these can be used with my 22-250. Most book loads for Varget call for standard large rifle primers. Any particular pitfalls with using magnum primers with varget? If so, it's easy enough for me to buy another lb of powder that does have book loads using lg mag primers and I could just hold onto the Varget for safekeeping. Thoughts?

If you have previous experience with Varget and LR primers, simply reduce your loads by 10-15% and work up a load with the Magnum primers.

Actually, I don't have previous experience with anything. I'm just starting into reloading...

The 6br guys say the combo it the cats meow! (But they use the small magnum 450 primers) I have never tried it with large mag primers, but Speer's manual says to use the magnum primers with ball powders like H380. Do you have 9 1/2 or 9 1/2M primers? The "M" primers are magnum. I have been told that the 7 1/2 primers are considered a magnum primers, and I have had good luck with them and varget.

Varget, magnum primers and 22-250's go together just fine. As stated reduce the load and work up.
