I have never used a clamp on brake. I have read about them and saw posts on here, but no first hand experience. Last year, I saw a guy at the gun club with two. He was extremely pleased with recoil reduction and I shot one in 243. Last year I also picked up a TC Venture 300 Win Mag cheap at a Gander Mountain clearance. Needless to say, recoil is a bit stout in the light rifle. Needing this for an elk hunt and not wanting to attempt a barrel removal for threading, I decided to try the Witt brake. It works great. My groups have shrunk and recoil is now like a 243. I was hoping to cut recoil in half and the brake seems to have cut recoil by about 75%.

75%? Were you using a lead sled too? What bullet are you shooting out of the 300 Winnie?

It felt like a 243. I was surprised for sure considering I really did not want shoot it much without the brake. I do not like recoil at all. No sled used and loads were factory PRVI 180gr. I will be working on elk loads probably with 190 or 200 gr.
