Hi folks,

I'm currently working on a (somewhat) budget precision build and I'm torn on what stock/chassis I'm going to go with.

Right now I'm juggling between the KRG Alpha 180 chassis, the GRS Berserk, or the HS Precision Pro M24.

I like the stocks foe their ergos and accuracy potential, but it means ill have to purchase seperate aics bottom metal. Which is an extra 150-200. The krg didn't require any of that, but I'm leary of going to a chassis that I've never held or played with before. Anyone have any recommendations?

The rifle will be more of a prone/paper puncher than a hunting gun, though I'm interested in eventually doing some PRS stuff with it.

PS, if i do decide on the stock I'd love to hear feedback on the bottom metal choices others have made. I hear that savage uses accurate mag bottom metal in their GRS model 10, but that might be a rumor.

I wouldn't include the GRS Berserk on my list of options. It's too light and does not balance a heavy barrel well. It is a hunting stock. Plus it's format is not ambidextrous in the case you would have to shoot support side. The HS Precision Stocks are of good quality, but I couldn't find the specific one mentioned above. if it is a M24 format however, the grip is that of a hunting style stock and not as comfortable for all the positional/prone shooting we do. The KRG Chassis's are one of the most comfortable Chassis's out there. The grip although foreign at first if you're not used to Chassis's is very ergonomic and repeatable. it also offers the most options as far as upgrading down the road if you get more serious about PRS. You can add picatinny rails, spigot mount, ARCA Swiss rails etc.

That being said My call on this would be the KRG Chassis.

Here is what the HS Precision looks like. It DOES have a vertical grip. Just not quite like the KRG or the Berserk.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180208/1a4c2abef83a67401529ddf2a251dae1.jpg

Grip doesn't look as vertical as in the pic from Stocky's you posted.

My mistake....

They have one that has a "Vertical Grip"............. https://www.stockysstocks.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/295x295/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/h/s/hspst025.jpg (https://www.stockysstocks.com/h-s-precision-pro-series-m24-vertical-grip-tactical-remington-700-winchester-70-stocks-adjustable-lop-cheek-pst-025-26-38-52-54-rh-and-lh-available.html)

Yeah. Not sure why they still call it an m24 style. That's confusing.

I've got a KRG Whiskey 3 stock on my custom action. I really like it, and I wasn't too hip on the chassis style stocks before I bought it.

I really like the HS. Have had several different models. Very solid. I have switched most of my rifles to Chasis. When set up right the chasis is just more "fitted" to me. That being said the HS models I had weren't adjustable and were about 2" short on my legth of pull. But still very nice. The chasis are more accessory friendly and come with the AI compatible bottom. Neither was more accurate for me than the other. Shooting the chasis prone for me is more comfortable than the HS but again that's because the LOP is set up better

Well guys i think I'm going with the krg 180.

After doing some research its really tough to beat it from a price OR performance perspective. It'll be my first chassis rifle so it'll take some getting used to. I'm excited to finally make this decision though. I spent way too long agonizing over it.

I think that’s the best call from your listed choices. I would also consider the MPA Chassis as well. It is the most comfortable Chassis I’ve been behind, but my preference is still a stock in and A5 format. Currently, running a Foundation Stocks MG1L on my rig.

Did you consider the MDT Chassis?

Did you consider the MDT Chassis?

Although MDT Chassis's like the ESS are well formatted and affordable. I found that their format left me wanting other features. The front palm rest doesn't allow for the rifle to sit as flat on a bag and becomes an issue similar to that of the AIAX Chassis. For me it was frustrating and the short bag rider on the butt stock also became an issue in some situations not allowing to build a position as efficiently as I prefer for PRS type shooting. the KRG and MPA Chassis's offer a wider forend and better buttstock options in my opinion as they are designed for precision rifles vice being formatted to represent an AR style foot print.

Anyways that's my take on them. I why I wouldn't suggest them as the best PRS option. General shooting as long as you're comfortable they're a non-issue.

Are the krg 180s just made for short actions or do they have a long action model also? I was looking online but only can find I do about short action ones. I am looking for something to put on a 110 in 30-06. Thanks for any info

Sadly, it appears to be short action only for the krg.

I think MDT might have a lomg action option.

Well i got the chassis in. I'm very impressed so far.

Its very rigid with lots of modularity. I'll be doing cycle tests tonight with aics pmags and I'll also try to get some metal aics mags too.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180221/bfab1ac5037255011b00917d58c6023b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180221/f6ef4eca763ae44db53243dc11acf1b0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180221/524899bf02c30293f2905c37b5a5d114.jpg
