Off the shelf Savage and 65gr Gamekings

I ran some OCW tests today with an off the shelf Savage and here are some results.

It likes 26.0gr

25.0 and 25.3 could tighten up with some seating depth or primer changes.

Not a bad start, the rifle shows promise. Savage rifles are fun.

You might also try some RL-15 and BL-C(2). Both these have worked well for me.

Before settling on any one powder shot longer strings. Three shot groups tell you very little overall. Five shot is better and a ten shot group will wring out the variables. There's a reason one shot groups are not the norm in competition shooting.

Powder choices in this chambering are extensive. I speak from experience after trying them and you'll likely find if you experiment enough that many of them are excellant powders too use. Since I have several different rifles chambered for this round consistency from rifle too rifle is a must. Best accuracy from several rifles with the same loading is important. My rifles are used for hunting thus one hole bench rest groups are not important. Rather consistant MOA hunting groups are important.
