I did a little horse trading and I got a savage action with bottom bolt release, a savage stock from a 10T that has an aluminum stiffener and a barrel from a 12FV 22-250. The issue is that the recoil lug from the 12FV is too wide to fit in the narrow channel side to side in the stock that has aluminum on both sides of the action. I ground it down so that it fits in there, but i am going to get a new 7mm-08 barrel in a couple months along with a new recoil lug. Do I need to mention that i have a stock that has the aluminum on each side so that the recoil lug needs to have the sides that are more parallel and narrower and not somewhat v shaped like the one that came with the 12FV?

Do all accustocks have aluminum on the sides of the action?

Are all of the aftermarket recoil lugs made to fit in this narrower stock?

You have the AccuStock, which uses a different recoil lug (similar in shape to a Rem 700 lug) than the non AccuStock rifles. As far as I know, all of the aftermarket lugs are designed for non-AccuStock rifles.

You can use a standard style recoil lug with the AccuStock if you do two things:

1) Shorten the lug to match the length of the AccuStock Lug (or you can mill the slot in the stock deeper)
2) Widen the slot in the stock to accept the wider standard lug.

A mill is the best tool for the job, but a Dremel or drill press with the proper bit can accomplish the same thing.
