Savage 516 Striker in .308Win

I came across this on armslist over the weekend. The guy was looking to trade and established a $300 trade value. Got the heck of it, I threw out a couple of offers and he bit on the like new Taurus 85 even trade! I stopped at my sister's property on my way home and fired three rounds at 50 yards just to test it. Recoil was surprisingly mild with the muzzle brake open. The first round went just over coke can, I was a bit nervous, the next two were aimed and hit right where I was pointing. The gun came with a Burris 3-9x pistol scope and Burris mounts. I added a cheap bipod but may upgrade later. When I make it through the 40 rounds of factory ammo I plan to start reloading for this gun. I currently load a few pistol calibers and only stock HP-38. I'm looking for powder recommendations as well as possibly some good starting loads taylored to the shorter barrel. I will mostly be shooting steel at 100 yards.

Like someone waiting outside for him bad.
You cant get that scope for the price of a new Taurus 85 and I wouldn't have traded you a set of Burris rings and bases for it.
You did really well as long as the cops dont take it into evidence or something.

No, the guy said he fired five rounds out of the gun and put it in the safe. He's getting rid of several rifles and shotguns right now that he hasn't shot in a long time (or at all). He's just bored and looking for something different. He knew good and well the savage was worth more but after a week of it being listed on armslist, mine was the most enticing offer he'd received. The other gun I offered was my Citadel compact 1911, but he preferred the Taurus.

Wow! I just looked up the scope. I'm not much of an optics guy. I knew the name Burris and that they make a decent product but didn't realize what the scope alone was worth! This one is a 3-9x long eye relief handgun scope with both the parralax adjustment and posi lock feature! Looks like I scored better than I thought.

You're going to want something fairly fast burning (closest I have loaded for is a 35 Rem in a 14" bbl that was a flame thrower!)
