And, can I shoot high velocity handloads through it?

Nice score, great little rifles. They were made from about 1921-1941. Yours may be from the later years since the stock is un-checkered. I have one in .25-20 and .22 Hornet. Your looks like my Hornet, and I bought it from the original owner who bought it new post war.

All depends on what you consider high velocity. Not sure if you can get over 1300-1400fps safely. Like all hand loads, work up gradually and stop when you see pressure signs.

Was a little off on the serial number. 56k, not 60. And I was asking more about "modern rifle only" handloads from recognized data sources. Are these considered to be as strong as 92 Winchester rifles?

Like I said, load carefully and watch for pressure signs. I don't like to shoot hot loads in old rifles.
If you look you will see that the barrel and receiver are machined from one piece of steel. Screw anything up like bulge a barrel and you've got yourself a gas pipe.

P.O. Dave, the 23s I have don't like it hot. Just not made to do it, the headspace becomes an issue. The good news is that they use a two piece bolt and a shim between the two sections will fix most problems. Not all but I have had good luck. They are nice plinkers, not made for long range. Put a nice peep sight on it and lord over all varmints with in 200 yards. Nice looking rifle. Have fun, be safe.

Sounds like they might be slightly more robust than a 73, but stay with Revolver Loads. No worries. What's the Revolver Loads range for 2400 behind a Barnes JSP 110?
