I have an older Savage 110 single shot HB target rifle that I would like to replace the target sights with a scope for load testing. Any suggestions and what to avoid?
One of the rear scope base screw hole might have been enlarged to accommodate the targetsights. Rifle is marked as a CIL 950T.

Use Weaver (true Weaver) aluminum bases. Use Burris Signature Zee rings. Use as much scope power as your checkbook can stand!

If the rear hole (in the action) was enlarged from 6-48 to 8-40, then just open up the matching hole in the aluminum Weaver base and countersink to accomadate the larger screw. If you need one 8-40 screw, a gunsmith can hook you up.

don't know why someone is suggestion "real" weaver aluminum bases, for one they are aluminum for 2 the slot does not run all the way across so the only part that is bearing and engaging the tab or screw on the bottom of the ring are the edges of the base, compared to like a steel warne base for example the weavers are pretty chinsey if you ask me. if the rifle does not need to be light weight I like some beef in the scope mounting setup, a ken farrell base is tuff to beat.

I like the Weaver GrandSlam rings and the EGW bases. Thats me though, and everyone will have their preference.

THAT'S QUITE A SIGHT - - - BOTH FIGURATIVELY AND LITERALLY ! !

I think CUMMINS COWBOY misunderstood ULTRAMAG44 - - "Use Weaver (true Weaver) aluminum bases." If you read it like this Use Weaver aluminum bases.(true Weaver) then you will see he just meant NOT AN OFF BRAND COPY - - - and WEAVER does make steel base mounts such as the DOVETAIL mount.

Not sure about that old gun but one of the new MOUNTING SYSTEMS being made by Weaver and other manufacturers might fit the bill for your needs.
I found this picture of a really nice 950T with a scope mounted - - -

Looks like that rifle has a flat rear reciever so he should get a base that fits a flat rear, round frone scope base.

Golfbuddy45, Thanks for the assist, that's exactly what I meant to say!

I could be wrong, but it looks like a Parker Hale (PH) sight.

It is a Parker Hale.
I know the seller of that scoped 950T.
His dad worked for CIL and was involved in the "target rifles Dept." so to speak.

Quote from:
http://www.petersenshunting.com/content/savage-110-turns-50/2

"In 1970, Savage filled an order from Canadian Industries Limited for 200 right-hand and twenty-five left-hand 950-T single-shot target rifles adapted for use with Parker-Hale sights. These ten-pound Model 110s were stocked by Bishop."

diopter,

What caliber is your CIL 950T chambered in?

Thanks, ultramag44

All of them where 7.62x51mm, 1 in 12 twist.
They were for the DCRA(Dominion of Canada Rifle Association) shooters, Canadian version of U.S. long range Hi-Power. At that time they were given the ammo by the Canadian military that was to be used in the matches. You can say the Palma Match was an offshoot of that. No scopes allowed even today in the target rilfe category, The DCRA started the F Class category, where scoped can be used to get new blood involved and keep the older shooters who can no longer see with iron target sights going to matches.
