I am just about to pull the trigger and order a savage 12 long range precision in 6.5 creedmor but Im kinda lost on what to do for a decent scope. The range I shoot at goes out to 600 yards so for the most part thats gonna be my limit unless im out groundhog hunting and happen to find a very large (for the area) hay field. Im really leaning in the direction of a first focal plane scope and I want MOA adjustment. Problem is most of what Im looking at doesnt clarify if they are first or second focal plane. I found a leupold vx3i lrp I really like but doesnt seem to be in stock anywhere I can find. Does anyone have any suggestions on an appropriate scope for what Im doing? And how do I clarify whether or not what Im looking at is FFP or RFP? Im thinking somewhere in the 6-20x50 or maybe 6-24/25x50 range. My eyes need a little more magnification than they used to. Any suggestions on magnification range from some more experienced shooters? I used to be fairly accurate out to 450 or so with a leupold 6.5-20x40 but that was 15 years ago Im just getting back into shooting longer ranges and I want a setup that will work as my skill returns and hopefully grows. Thank you

in your price range i would consider the Sightron SIII SFP scope. I cant comment on the Athlon Argos but I can say that the Cronus BTR blew me away for the price.

You can pretty much assume any scope that does not specify FFP is SFP.

List goes on for that platform....Dont go cheap on optics...Read up or search past threads (endless) on which scope for what.
SWFA and NF comes to mind for that precision rifle....Leupold also a fan favorite. Good luck and congrats

I have a Burris XTR II 4-20x50 w/acr moa reticle on my 338LM. Sweet scope. Got it at whittakers guns allot cheaper than any other place. Its a ffp scope. Burris does make a 5-25 also. Mine was under 900 bucks.

If the age shown is accurate you are still a very young man.
Normally, unless there are eyesite issues, your old 6.5x20 would still serve you well for what you want to do.
True, on the whole, a larger objective would allow more light to enter the scope.
But reality is that on most days you will be hard pressed to notice the difference between say a 42 and a 50 or a 50 and a 55.
Put 2 on the line on the same day looking at the same thing and most guys will take the cost difference in cash.
As for power, that is mostly a personal thing. We need enough to clearly see the target, but do we need enough to see its eye color?
For what your planning, id be saving some cash by getting a fixed power scope in something like 12 to about 15 power, and not be worried much about objective size or focal plane.
Or, if the old scope is still around id be using it.

Since you really didn't list a price....

I like the Burris XTR2 for the under $1000 price range, and the Steiner t series for the $1500-1700 range.
