I live in Knoxville we have the Marion county sportsmans club with a 200'yard range

I went to the last Varmint Match they held in Aug. 2010. Was a good time, friendly people, and quite a few Savages in the racks. I will probably try to go again this year. Try out a couple of my latest creations.

Well the weather is starting to get nice now. Does anyone know of a range with longer than 200 yard distances that is within a few hours drive of Cedar Rapids?

We have a 330 yard (300 meters) range just North of Burlington. You have to be a Certified Member or in the company of a Certified Member though.

It's run by the Des Moines County Conservation Board, and is part of the Big Hollow Park.

The link below is the only link I know of concerning the Range. The link is not much but here it is.

The rules do allow Permit holders to bring a guest so if you'd like to check it out, send me a PM and maybe I can help.

I'm in Creston, shooting at the new 500 yard High Lakes range north of Three Mile Lake. Members only, members are allowed to bring a guest. Dues are $45 a year.

I'm from Creston, and I'm a member of the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance.

We have a new range (still being built) north of Three Mile Lake. It has a 25 yard pistol bunker, and a rifle range with dirt berms at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. They have just started construction on the concrete for the covered rifle and pistol firing lines.

In addition, there are five voice activated trap bunkers, and plans for some skeet as well.

Membership runs $45 per year - that's dirt cheap in my book. It is suggested that visitors donate five dollars per hour of range time, but there isn't a deposit box yet. Rumor has it there will be group purchases for things like trap & skeet shells, perhaps even reloading supplies.

This range is funded entirely from the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance - there is no state or federal money involved.

If you plan on visiting this range, you had better plan on dealing with some wind. The firing line for the rifle range is at the top of a long, sloping hill that's rented out for hay. There are no trees, shrubs, etc to block or deflect the wind. It can become a real issue if it's from the south.

I shoot a Savage model 11 Hog Hunter in .308 - lots of room to stretch out and take some longer shots.

Hey 390fe I'm in Creston as well and shoot at three mile all the time. Shoot me a pm sometime.

390fe is right- the wind is a bit tricky as the range is on a hill at the end of a pretty big lake.

That being said it's a pretty awesome set-up. Would love to have some of you guys down for some range days. Anyone interested in shooting out to 500 in southwest Iowa?

I may be up for a group shoot day if one gets together. It would be a drive, but always fun to shoot and meet new folks.
