Ok I might have a line on a great deal for a used 111 in 270. I already have a 270 but was thinking it could be turned into a 264 WM. Is this action ok to build a 264 on? I was thinking of building a mountain-ish style rifle with a 26 in tube and un-decided on stock. The rifle is under 200.00 that is what has me thinking.

Thanks Majja

Depends on age, not that an old rifle want hold up but an old rifle may offer some additional challenges. You will need bolt head, barrel, go gauge and maybe a new mag. I don't know if the 270 mag will reliably feed a 264 WM round. Don't forget the tools to perform the barrel swap.

You can test mag feeding as it sits. Will the rounds go in, feed out and start into the barrel. Obviously, 264win mag rounds won't chamber in a 270 because of the belt. I started with a 7 mag rifle and now have 2506, 270 and 3006 barrels for it. all feed fine and work, Be aware of one thing however. This practice can be addictive. I now have 3 savage actions and 7 barrels.

I have been wanting to build a savage for a long long time. Just the timing was never good. Now the timing is pretty good and I may start down this path.

If you run into a brick wall, consider 6.5-06. It will fit, and performance is darn close.

6.5-06 or a 6.5-284. You won't need a new bolt head for either. But if you like belts, keep on keepin on.
