View Full Version : Can I convert a 110 7Rem Mag to a 7STW?

I have a 110 Tactical in 7Rem Mag that I got thinking I was gonna have it chamber reamed into a 7 STW.
It appears that the action is long enough but the magazine is too short to handle the STW cartridge?
The rifle is a staggered feed, blind magazine in a tupperware factory stock.
I plan on using it as a long range deer gun from a fixed stand and would rather have a repeater than a single shot.

Is it possible to replace the magazine box and open the stock up to accept the new magazine?
Has anybody made this conversion?

Thanks in advance,
Howard

Yes, it is possible, but the magazines are no longer available.

OK,so I can't buy a magazine. ::)
Since it's nothing more than a stamped piece of sheetmetal, what would keep me fromm fabricating one?
I'm a mechanic, have tools and know how to use them.

Is the mag box my only hurdle?

Thanks,
Howard

machining the receiver out to accept it might be also, id say go for it.

you can send the STW reamer straight down the 7RM chamber, note that the new STW chamber may have an ever so slight step at the old location of the RemMag case body/shoulder interface as the STW at this location is slightly smaller. The step will not be measureable.....
Also of interest; land diameter of the STW is equal to the WbyMag at 7.02 as opposed to the 7.04 of the RemMag but uses the same RemMag 7.23mm(.285") proj.

If your going full length cartridge why not go the 7mmKM just to be different; long action is already huge enough, If I recall I measured the mag cut out at 93.5mm (=7mmKM OAL so slight bit of work required)

What ever you do........enjoy

7mm KM?
Never heard of it. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Howard

What would one need to start a fresh 7mmSTW build? As i am interested in buliding one myself. Would the 7mm rum action and magazine work?

Nosler lists the CAOL of the 7RUM @ 3.570 vs the STW they have listed at 3.600.
I would think the RUM Action might be a more logical choice.

Yep a rum action is the way to go, I had a factory 7mm stw and that used a rum action.

7mmKM = Katzmaier Magnum, developed by Wolfgang Katzmaier, he is with H&K I understand not sure if it was in-house or his private development which was basically necking down the Lapua Magnum Case. KM therefore near identical to the 300LapuaMag only differences being the 7mm proj and a radius at the shoulder/neck junction.

Not a wildcat, been official since at least '99 in Europe.

7mmSTW similar to RUM but RUM is fatter and has twice the freebore than the STW at 10.65mm vs. 5.22mm and of course more case capacity. RUM is standard (375H&H) Mag O/A length at 91.44mm (3.6") while STW slightly longer at 92.71mm; if the RUM fits then there should be the extra length in there for the STW (KM OAL is 93.5mm).

Standard long action has a large enough mag cut out to fit either plus a little bit more
