Model 10 questions

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. I would like to see if some of you guys n gals could help me to identify this model 10 I got on a trade a few years back. I'm trying to find out what stock is on it, trigger, barrel, etc. Looking to get the value of it.

My guess is it's just a Model 10 FP that someone put into a Bell & Carlson Medalist Varmint/Tactical stock. Clearly a factory barrel and factory AccuTrigger.

As for value, in "normal" times I would say probably around $500-600 but with the way things are right now and the $220 Model 12FV's from Cabela's you'd probably have to price it at $300 or less to get any takers.

Ok so considering it's not worth selling or trading (looking for a mountain rifle) what could I do to upgrade it? It's got a stock, it's got a nice trigger, not sure about the barrel.
I was hoping it would be worth more seeing that most of the model 10 high precision rifles are going for over a grand but I'm an archery guy so I'm not up on all the pricing just yet

You could part with the stock in the classified and sell the barrel to fund a pencil barrel and maybe even find a lightweight stock of sorts to make your mountain rifle.

If you're wanting a lightweight mountain rifle for hunting, I would just recommend trading this in towards a Model 11 Lightweight Hunter in the caliber of your choice. That will get you a good (hardwood) lightweight stock and the lightest barreled action you can get with a Savage.

Yes, a model 16 lightweight hunter is available. Run about $500.00 new usually. Not sure on the weight savings on the machined out reciever.

Edit: I just looked on cabelas and they have the 16 LWH in .243 win @ $499. Coupled with the rebate from savage your cost would be $399.

Rather than sell, trade, or modify, consider keeping it and just reduce the weight of kit you carry. If this rifle is nice and accurate, what's a couple of pounds. If it weighs 10# and you get an 8# rifle instead, the extra couple of pounds can often be shed from your pack by leaving home with a few non-essentials.

I know a couple guys who go hunting with enough ammo to match what an infantryman might carry on a combat patrol.

If you want to change barrel and stock it will lighten the rifle using a $35 fiber and a sporter barrel at $50-75 in the classified section. I like to cut the barrel length back to 20" to get a quick handling rifle. It makes as much difference in handling as weight does.

Just put an Axis medium-heavy 22" barrel on a hunting rifle, it may get some inches taken off soon. I think the model 10 is a heavier and longer barrel. You still need the scope and mounts, so there isn't a bunch of weight to shed, maybe 3-4lbs?

F" prefix with a serial number lower than F498821 = 1989 thru Nov. 1st, 1995
"F" prefix with a serial number higher than F498821 = Nov. 1st, 1995 through the end of 2002
"G" prefix started in 2003 with the introduction of the AccuTrigger
"H" prefix started in January of 2010

This will help you figure out a approx age of your rifle

Sell it and get the lightweight hunter. Otherwise you will have something you don't want or you will pay more to make it the way you want than you would if you sold it and got the rifle you wanted in the first place.

Add that up and think if it's worth selling it for 300, adding another 200 (which you'll get 100 back from the rebate) plus taxes.

You might have to wait but I think you could get 450 for the rifle sans scope. On paper to me it looks like 250 for the barreled action and 200 for the stock.
