Yea there are many aftermarket parts available though not as many as the other models (i.e. model 10, 11, etc).

Are the barrels the same thread as other savage small shank barrels?

I have one in 243 and all I did was add a Rifle Basix trigger and set it to 2.5 #'s.

I put a Boyd's Featherweight Thumbhole on mine and modified the trigger spring. Made a lot of difference in accuracy

Yes the barrels are the same.

Just and FYI, the recoil lugs are different. The Axis uses a stock mounted recoil lug similar to a Tikka, but the barrels are interchangeable.

Rifle Basix trigger made a huge difference in shrinking groups on my 243 Axis. Just ordered a second one for a SS 223 Axis that followed me home after Thanksgiving.
