Savage 12FV range day...

So I picked up a 6.5 Creedmoor 12FV from Cabela's for a ridiculously low price and proceeded to upgrade the rifle a bit and try some ammo. I'm not a big "barrel break in" person; I just shoot the rifle and clean it when it needs cleaning - if this is the issue I'm not sure but, that being said, I ran a few factory loads through the gun (I don't reload) and they all printed at 100 yards just about the same. Just under MOA to just over MOA. I'm not overly impressed as I expected better from this gun. I know I have my bottom metal over torqued as the dude from Accurate Mag told me to do 60 f/lbs which is excessive. I'm going to wind it down to 40 next range day and also re adjust my zero. Is this all I should be expecting out of this rifle with factory loads or is something up? I figured she'd be a nail driver but she's falling a little short.

I think HS Precision actually recommends 65 inch lbs for their stocks. 65 inch lbs is a bit much too me with my torque drive. I actually worry about stripping out the action screw heads. I have mine at 60 like you. I bet you need to shoot the barrel some more. It may need to be broken in a bit. If you haven't done so, try about 100 rounds down it and see if it starts grouping better.

1 moa for a production rifle with factory ammo is not bad. It will likely get better with a few rounds down the pipe. I know there are guys who post 1/2 moa groups from what is basically a mass produced barrel. Maybe they are lucky or maybe they are cherry picking 3 shot groups. I have seen many,many reviews of factory rifles done by proffesional gun writers and can recal very,very few factory production rifles that shot less than moa for FIVE shots with factory ammo. Even when said writers include some pet hand loads the results are not much better. If you reload you can probably find a load the rifle likes and squeeze more out of it. The barrel is the heart of any accurate rifle and this one is from a relatively cheap massed produced rifle. I just purchased the same rifle. I should have the scope and everything ready for testing in a week or so. If it shoots moa with factory ammo for barrel break in I'll be happy. If it doesn't then I know I can get a mcgowen 26" tube for $300, boyds varmint stock for about $200. Counting the $200 I have in the rifle after rebates I know I'll have a tack driver for $700.
