Hello.
After dropping my 1917 Springfield 30-06 deer rifle off of a 11 foot roof and cracking the stock this year during deer season, I decided to buy a new deer rifle. Knowing next to nothing about long guns, I asked around and was pointed towards the Savage Axis line. Given my tendency to research what is available at the next tier or so up in any given product line, I found the deal on the FCP-SR 308Win, with a 24" threaded barrel for $450 (after rebate).
The gun is on its way to a nearby FFL via FEDEX, and I should have it next week.
I'll be using this gun for deer hunting from a fixed location (blind or stand), and may explore some longer distance shooting for fun, as this gun is supposedly capable for the task.
Since I hunt in Northern MN, I plan to mount a 1x6 or 1x8 scope on it, as the shots tend to be up close, within 50 yards or so.
I'll likely have more questions once I get the rifle and settle on a scope.
