hey all, great site you have here and i'm learning a lot. i'm looking to start a new first rifle build and picked up this model 111 as a donor.i have several 308s and a mod 12lrpv so i would like to build something for 1000++ yds what i would like is a 338 edge or lapua if possible with this receiver . its now or was a 30.06. i need recommendations on barrel length and twist, trigger, mag & bottom metal and stock ,what would be the best bang for my buck... i dont reload but looking for a set up to start...thanks

First, I want the story on that barrel. What happened?

The Lapua is general is not recommended in a standard (non-BA) action. The engagement surface on the bolt head becomes too narrow and at risk for being the weak link. Because the Edge head size is smaller, it leaves more metal in place giving a more reasonable margin of safety. I would go with a minimum 28" Shilen select match barrel. You will also need a magnum bolt head. Depending on how much the completed rifle will weigh, you may also want to consider a muzzle brake. My Edge weighs just over 15 pounds so I shoot it without a brake. I'm still breaking the barrel in but my first measured three shot group at 100 yards was a clover leaf of .337"
