I have been shooting since I was 5 years old and now I am 63. You may think that’s a lot of experience but not really. Have you ever heard the expression “one year experience 58 times”? I have always owned guns and used them but never really got down to the basics of accuracy. That is why I am here hoping for advice for improvement. I own 3 Savages at the current time. A FP10 in .308, a Model 12 in 22-250, and a LRP in 260 rem. These plus one custom AR and one custom 10/22 make up my accuracy guns. Counting shotguns and handguns and military rifles have around 72 besides the ones I have given my son. I have had many hobbies over the years but guns have been a common thread all along. Two of my Savages are around 15 years old and the LRP is about two years old. My other hobbies have been astronomical photography, RC airplanes, and fireworking. I have been retired for 3 years and now I have returned to reloading and shooting. I am taking the Savages one at a time and trying to develop maximum accuracy from each. The 260 first. So far I have a load that shoots 0.65 moa. My goal is .5 moa which I don’t think is unrealistic. My son bought a .308 a couple years ago and put a Plaster stock from EABCO on it and was shooting.3 to .4 moa with factory federal match right off the bat. I haven’t come close so I figured I must be a bad shot and truthfully I do have some techniques to work on. A recent acquisition caused me to drag out the Savages. I purchased a custom barrel from EABCO recently which was I thought a neat little toy. I own several Encore calibers so I purchased a 17” bull barrel in 30-30 and to my surprise using 168 SMKs I was consistently shooting 0.65 moa first attempt. I reasoned my Savages should do better but I will end the introduction here and post details and advice questions in the appropriate forum section. Good day to all and to Jim Baker for helping me get logged on!
