I like the Leupold dual dovetails.
Rock solid setup and works well for rifles that see hard field use and heavy recoiling calibers.
They also provide some offset to help with shorter scopes.
Good luck

Forgot about the old RUMs being flat rear.
I went and checked my 116 RUM because it's been tucked away in the back of the safe for quite some time. I have standard Leupold rings and bases on it. The front is a dovetail and the rear is windage adjustable. The older flatback mounts are getting harder to come by since they haven't been manufactured for a while but they are out there. It's probably going to require some shopping around to locate some.
I'm not sure if you're in the market for a scope but the Burris scopes with the ballistic plex reticle (FF2s and E1s) are budget friendly and the reticle matches up nearly perfectly with the .300RUM cartridge out to 600 yards with a 200 yard zero making it an awesome choice for a hunting rig. That's what I put on mine many years ago and loved it. After turning several white tailed deer to purple mush I dont shoot deer with it anymore.

ha i understand about the deers meat damage like to use it for long range 4 to 600 yards. I hunt mostly large fields and my 7x57 is fine to 400. If i had the money id be much easyer to find bases and a better scope. Or maybe id restock and do a long range gun but finding the range to shot is vary hard here in ny thanks again for your comments. ,troy,

Just a few options for your Flat back Savage. I'm sure Opticsplanet has more options for the Round Back receivers but I'll let you do some fishing. Good luck !

Depending on the size of the deer a 3-9x scope will work just fine out to 400 yards.
