Well, bought a used Savage 308 Win barrel from another forum member (Thanks again Ryan). I have to admit I'm a little impressed with how well the barrel did this morning. I wasn't expecting much from a stock barrel. I just took two boxes of my generic reloaded match and hunting ammunition, and started launching it at the target to see what happens. First six round after bore-sighting the rifle got me into the 10 ring, then two strings of five to see how well the barrel could stay in the 10 ring.

The rifle, Savage 10 action in an MDT LSS chassis:

The range, 100 yards out in the back of the farm:

Five round group of 168 grain SMK's, loaded mag length for a M1A rifle.

And another five round group of 150 grain Sierra Game Kings. Not spectacular, but certainly good enough to send Bambi into the freezer.

Just another day of breaking the sound barrier out in the woods :p

Looks like some 165gr Game Kings oughta be on the menu.
The HPBTs out shoot the match kings in a couple of my .30 cal rifles.
Must be something about the ogive.

Next go-around I'll try a batch of Hornady A-Max 168 gr. using the same load as the 168 SMK. Just to see if they fly similarly. I don't get shots much beyond the 200 yard range, so I really don't need the extra velocity.
