View Full Version : Bolt arm Catching Stock and Sticking...just recent

Just returned from hunting out west...had to set my Savage 30.06 aside and use my son's .270 ...as for whatever reason, my Savage bolt began catching the stock. Almost as if stock and barrel shifted in relationship to each other, but the stock is securely attached to the barrel, so that would confuse me. I share three photos here where the problem is, wonder if any might know why this is going on...and what I'll need to do to remedy this, thanks...the last pic shows a small mark left by the stock on the bolt arm...feint, but its there. Thanks for any insights.

Remove barreled action from stock. File offending material. Return barreled action to stock. Stand stock on buttstock with action loose. tighten action screws until desired torque is achieved. Check for contact. Repeat as needed.

Was it close to begin with or did it just moved when you transported it elsewhere? If it moved during shooting then something might have come loose but this shouldn't happen if it was bolted to the stock correctly!
