I am in need of some help. Here in Maine you can only hunt with no more than five cartridges or shells I your firearm. I only have the 10 round factory mag that came with the rifle. Funds are super tight right now and can't afford to spend $40 on the four round magazine. My question is, is it possible to put a limiter/plug in the mag to make it only take four rounds? Would six empty rounds do the trick? I dont want to screw up the feeding.

Not knowing what firearm in specific I would say that if you can disassemble the mag and put something under the follower & spring, put it back together & limit capacity to 4 you should be fine. I think a block of wood would probably be best. Loading 6 empty shells into the mag and then loading 4 live after it would probably get you a summons if checked but thats just my .02

Deer hunting?
Leaving the mag at home and putting 1 in the chamber and 4 in your pocket may be a good option.
Shouldn't need but 1

That's my take. Go single shot. Fine tradition back to the 1300s.
