Posted this elsewhere but trying to reach the widest audience. So if you have seen this before, I apologize. Been looking at Savage 1899/99 rifles for years but had too many other pressing interests. Lately, I have decided that I need one and it has to be a carbine. The SRCs and Barrel Bands are my favorites. So I bid too much for this BB in caliber 250-3000 (tel:250-3000). Sorry that photos aren’t the best. Made in 1935. Fits me like a glove.

Working on the SRC.

Very pretty! Excuse my ignorance, but is the barrel band the only thing holding the forearm? I'm used to relieving the barrel band on Winchester 92s for increased accuracy. Can you do the same on a 99? Also, do you lose much velocity with a carbine length barrel?
