Long time reader of this site, new to reloading. I have a savage model 12 lrp in a 260. I have moved to south Texas and looking at hunting nilgai. I am hoping to get a 7wsm barrel and shoot 175 accubonds out of it and 180 berger at targets thru the dpm. Will it be long enough, or should I look at a long action? Any help would be appreciated.

the WSM will fit in a short action. You will likely have to form your own brass because the 7mm WSM was the least accepted of the WSM line. The shoulder is pushed a bit forward of the other WSM cases and it has a shorter neck. You might find brass, but it will likely be expensive. Loaded ammo can be a challenge to find too.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think I would be better off with the 300 wsm?

What freebore would be best with the 300 wsm?

I would do a 300 WSM over any of the other WSM due to access to ammo. You can obviously roll anything you want, but most sporting good stores will have quite a variety of 300 WSM on the shelf. For freebore, I would talk with your barrel builder. I am assuming you are having a custom barrel made not a factory take off.
