I am sure I had some idea of what this was when I bought it years ago. However through moving, etc I have lost the original tag.
Currently at a loss.
The Barrel is 22 3/4"
Over all length is 36"
The caliber is larger than 30 and smaller than 45
bottom of the barrel beneath the front Grip is stamped 90
Appreciate any assistance
THANKS!!
Richard

BOPE = Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais ( BOPE)...Spain I do believe, not the more current affiliation with BOPE in Brazil. Maybe 43 Spanish caliber?

Maybe made at Ovieda? Model 1871 carbine.

Dunno enough about them, but know the 43 Spanish carbine is rare.

Hope me this helps

The proof marks are British, which tells me that before it went anywhere else, it went through the Birmingham proof House.

I suppose it's possible that it's actually a British made weapon that found its way to Spain and remained there sometime past 1936. The BOPE stamp followed by that specific number identified it for use in their civil war. 36'- 39'.

I'm not enough of a guru to know all the proof marks and country of origin. I thought the one looked like a knight with a shield like a coat of arms.

Probably a Remington made for the Spanish military in 43 Spanish Caliber (aka 11 millimeter). Due to the poor fit of the stock, it looks to have been sporterized. The saddle ring looks to made out of a threaded bolt and was probably added and the side plate has been poorly re-blued as a result.
