Anyone got a load that works pretty well for them?

Also, I noticed hodgdon's page says max load for 4895 with 75 grain bullet is 25 gr. My Hornady manual says 23.3 gr. That's a pretty big difference. What do your manuals say?

I think I figured out the difference in load data. The hornady book is max load for ARs, the hodgdon load is for bolt guns.

The following load shoots well in my 1/8 twist Sinarms barrel Savage: (.576" group) Lapua brass neck sized after fire forming, BR-4 primer, RE-15/23.4 grains, 75 gr A-max seated .011" off the lands. My chrono'd velocity for this load showed 2795 fps on my old PACT PC2.

in my 1:9 Shilen, 26 inch,

I use Win.cases, & Rem. 7 1/2 primers, with the 75 gr. A-Max's seated .015 off the lands.

using either 24.5 grs. of Varget, or 24.5 grs. of H-4895, I get comparable accuracy.

I worked up to both these loads in 1/2 gr., & they are safe in my rifle, maybe not yours.

the H-4895 gives me approx. 90 to 100 FPS more vel. than the Varget with the same load, but as far as accuracy, hard to tell which is more accurate.

My 12FV 1:9 twist shoots the 75gr Amax into .75" at 100 yards. Lake City 08 brass trimmed to 1.750", 23.6gr H4895, CCI 400, 2.875" OAL. This OAL is very long and I don't remember if I feed these through the mag or single load them. Velocity is 2850fps out of the 26" barrel. I got great groups from 24gr of powder too at a velocity of 2891 but the 23.6gr load was the OCW (if you are familiar with OCW load development.)

I have had excellent results with this load at 200yrds :

Varget 23.8
CL 1.750
COL 2.500
CCI 450

.680" group

I will be using this load in a competition at the end of the month

I went to the range yesterday, I only took 10 rounds with the amax's. I had worked to load up some at 100 yards, but they didn't group as well as my 70 gr berger VLDs. One 5 shot group measured about 6" Hor. and 3 " vert. And the other had 3 rounds in 3" and one round dropped low and to the right making the total group 13". This was at 600 yard, with winds around 15 mph gusting to 20+.

I don't know what happened to the one that dropped. I could have loaded it wrong, the wind my have gotten it, or I might have just used the wrong mill dot. I deff. need to do some more testing with the Amax's at that range.
