Hello Everyone,
Just looking at ordering some 6.5 CM ammo and I was wondering what would be best for the Savage 12 VF. I think it has a 1:8 twist. I am looking at both 140g and 129g.

I found this site that has ammo for under $1 but shipping usually takes it over.

Thanks for the help,

Odd question. How far from a Sporting goods store are you?

Close to 140 grain is the ideal for 6.5 supposedly, but I expect 129 would shoot fine.

Each rifle is different and even a rifle off the line right behind another one can be dramatically different.

If you get match ammo that almost assures as close as you can it will shoot at least decently in most guns, sometimes great. Rarely poor.

But no one can tell you for sure ahead of time, you have to buy and test ammo, plain and simple

If you can get the 136 (?) Lapua Scanner in factory that is probably the best chance.

Federal Premium Gold Medal Berger 130gr is probably the best of the best.

For affordable yet accurate ammo I only experienced this from Federal Fusion ammo. Shoots very small groups no matter the rifle or the cartridge. Has never failed to impress.

Consider doing a break in procedure, the an ammo trial. Get 3-5 brands and see what works best. I've done this several times. Hornady custom shoots likes out in my 243, and we'll in my 3006. Fusion is right there with it. I handload now, and both like to have small jumps (0.02)

Varget is supposed to be a good choice for the 6.5.
