Change striker bolt head?

What do I need to change Striker bolt from 22-250 to 223?

I just bought a 308 striker but I think I am going to go with a .243 barrel when varmint hunting and use the 55-58gr bullets.

The Striker bolt body has a bit punched through to the inside. This bit matches u shaped slots in the bolt head, essentially indexing the bolt head/bolt body. A new small-firing-pin-diameter bolt doesn't have the u shaped slots. Can I grind off the inside bolt body bit without causing any ill effects?
