Cheap DIY Shooting Bags

This is not my idea, I'm sure everyone knows about it or something similar however I figured I would post for those who might not.

U.S. Walmart Prices:

$14 for 1 container of 10,000 airsoft BB's
$3 for 3 pair of crew socks (you get to keep 2 pairs)

Very light, surprisingly stable, and a media that is not sensitive to the elements.

I put about 60-70% in one, the rest in the other. Gives you two different size bags for whatever you're shooting at. Pick it down, twist it up, and tie a knot. Similar to a loaf of bread. Then just fold the sock back over and you're done.

Little plastic beads from Walmart or Hobby Lobby work too.

Same trick with socks, but with rice...

Does the rice stay pretty dry for you? I'd thought about using it as a filler, but I kept imagining it getting moldy and squishy.

I've used ABS pellets (Beanie Baby guts) for bag filler but never tried it in a sock!

Never had a problem with rice getting squishy or moldy... it takes a LOT of moisture to hydrate dry rice. However, if used in competition where possibly shooting in the rain might be an issue, then plastic would be the way to go, but for bench shooting, never had an issue.

I just like the idea of being able to wash the bag if necessary without removing the media, and if I don't need the bag anymore I can still use the BB's for their intended purpose.

I put sand in a zip lock bag then put in sock, if I need to wash sock just take out bag of sand.

If you need bigger bags then old pants legs work really nice.
I have a couple filled with rice and beans.
In a pinch you wont starve LOL.

I tried the socks, but found they stretch to much. I took an old pr of jeans and cut the legs off. Cut two 10" sections,then sewed the ends leaving about 1/2" open in a corner. Took a small funnel and filled it with navy beans then sewed shut. Works fantastic.

If you reload shotshells... the 25lb shot bags worked perfectly when filled with sand and they wouldn't wear out. that was some quality canvas.

I have a few of these and they are about as good as it gets for making your own bags.
Paint ball beads work well for a very light weight filler if you plan on carrying them to places.

I've got some "old" bank bags, from years ago that were used to store/hold the banks reserve coin supplies in their vaults. Armored cars used 'em as well to transport the bulk coin orders for banks. Heavy canvas or cloth material that doesn't wear out very easily.
