Hi I am new to the site. My uncle just gave me a Model 99. I know the the caliber is .250-3000. Other than that I know very little about the gun. I would like to use the gun but need to know what round I can use and where I can find it. The gun came from a cousin of his that passed away and he wanted it to stay in the family. So he wanted me to have it. It seems like a great gun but the history is a mystery to me. When was it made? What should I check before I use it? Would I be better off not using it? The model # starts with 362xxx. Also is it something I should get insured. I can post pics if that helps. Thank you.

The rifle is a 99G which was the deluxe take down model of the day. The date of manufacture is 1937. The ammo is still commerically available and will be listed as 250 sav/ Looks to be in really nice shape! You have a keeper there!

Thank you! It appears to be all original. I am very excited to have it. I will pass it down to one of my kids someday.

Small picture but I'm seeing a 99% gun there.

Good thing your not selling it, save it awhile and you can probably put one of your kids through school with it. ;D ;)

Hey Ben, You have a very beautiful and valuable rifle there! Be sure you take very good care of it. Please, no matter how tempting it may be do not have it drilled and tapped for scope mounts and do not install sling swivels on it! Those two things will really cause it's value to go down. Leave it original. It is a great family heirloom!
