New to Precision Rifles and new Savage 12 lrp

I'm new to precision rifles, been shooting ar's for a while now but wanted to get into the precision game. I picked up a new 12 lrp in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am using a SWFA 12x42 ss with Seekins rings and a Night Force mount. I don't hunt so this rifle is for paper and steel only. I'm able to shoot to 600 yards at the club I belong to but eventually get the gun to 1000 yards. Any tips for a Newby are appreciated.

Do you reload? You will get the most accuracy from reloading. I have the same gun and it is absolutely amazing. A bit front heavy but crazy accurate. The trigger is phenomenal

I don't reload yet but am seriously thinking about starting.

You will greatly broaden ur ability to shoot accurate ammo. Ur accuracy will improve overall, I am certain

I had my barrel threaded before I ever shot it. Planned to use a suppressor. Makes it super long

first get the book from Ryan Cleckner >> Long Range Shooting, then start doing lots of dry firing, next buy good Hornady factory ammo and get trigger time, get decent scope...NO, it dont have to be a 1500 dollar scope, try Athlon models....good scopes for the money....dry fire more and make sure your trigger finger is correct, your scope is correctly set up....more dry firing....learn MIL and MOA....practice, practice and practice more.....
My 243 LRP does 0.342 inch with 5 rounds at hundred yards....LOVE it.....got to go....need do more dry firing and reading Ryans book third time over.......

I'm another sucker for a nice long range rifle and a 12 was my choice as well. The Mod12 and 6.5 Creedmoor seem made for each other. I shoot 500m benchrest with mine and so far my best group at that distance is 1.89inches. Mine likes 140gb Berger VLD Target bullets and 42.3gn H4350. I'm getting 2,766fps out of it. Mine is zeroed to 300m because once load development was done I didn't need to shoot at shorter distances. Have fun with it pal.

That's some fine shooting there, I only hope I can get there myself.

You're starting with good equipment. I think you would enjoy reloading and load development. I have a 12 LRPV in 6 mm BR and with the weight of the rifle this caliber is like shooting rimfire.

First range trip today... zeroed at 100 yards very easy. Was hitting 6 inch steel plate at 600 yards roughly 50% of the time. Best group at 600 was around 6 inches so real close to 1moa with Hornady 140 gr eld match. I know the rifle will do better, but I need some more skill to get it there.

I have the LRP in a 6.5 CM and had the 12x SWFA SS on it for a while and it was a nice shooter. I was constantly hitting the 4" steel target at 400 yards, almost like I couldn't miss.

I stepped up to a Burris XTR2 and love it even more!
I went 7 out of 10 on a 12" steel target at 1000 yards the only time I ever shot over 780 yards.

Before you know it that 600 yard 6" target of yours will be automatic.
