Plans have changed I've decided to keep the axis. Installed another scope on it and in the end will be testing the 105 match burners after all. If I have some time during this week I will try them on my lunch break.

Let us know how the 105 match work. I ended up finding a guy that had 1600 of the 105 amax so I'm good on them for awhile.

Plus they are pretty reasonable on price.

No really the only ones I've tried were the amax, 105 Berger hybrid match and Sierra 100gr game kings. It shoot the amax and game king very well but didn't like the Bergers. If I have to go a different direction I'll probably try the 103 edl-x.

"I was running the 105 amax @ 2980 with a just under max load of hybrid 100v out of 24 inch barrel."

Hybrid 100V is my go to powder for my .243 Win - The Sierra Gamekings 100gr gave me 1 hole groups at 100yds at 2950fps.
I tried other powders, but Hybrid 100V gave me the best results and was clean burning at just under hodgdon's max load listing as well.

I like the Hybrid 100v, it meters great out of my chargemaster. I loaded a 100 rds yesterday and 1 over throw. I get great speed out of. It is a little temp sensitive but the loads I have are under max just back off a .1 or .2 in the summer when it get around 90-95.

Just got done at the range and any one need about 60, 105 match burners just kidding. But in all seriousness they shot about a 10-inch group. I guess my heavy barrel axis doesn't like the 105s. After shooting 3 groups of 4 shots and struggling to stay on an 8 by 11 sheet of paper. I gave up. The rounds were not keyholing or anything like that two shots would shoot together then the point of impact would move 4 to 6 in. After checking my scope mounts and all were tight I shot some more 87gr vmax which I will post some of the pictures of the group's later.

Here are the group's from today the big target is a quick 3 shot group as I was getting the scope zeroed. The other two groups are from doing some load work up. On a side note the barrel was cleaned prior to this outing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180228/7da3d675962c388794944a4676eee5f2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180228/393c6b91190fb2399fd9d84b2317cb85.jpg

That's a bummer on the 105's. From what I have read on here it's 50\50 on the 105 amax. The 87 will get it done:cool:

Was able to get out to the farm today and do some shooting at 350 not my best showing but it's only my second time past 100. Here is the plate I had no spotter so took a second then I was on target.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180520/2f34e6c3a545e72e0dcbe3791ad9ffbf.jpg

Went out to do some load development for another rifle this morning, but took the 243 heavy barrel with. I only had ammo loaded for one group but she is still shooting good.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180813/fd9687c543dcd8e82bd1415b15aca826.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180813/8b2e5bf8f4b8e2785e0d142dc8a19f17.jpg

And the exploration continues. Tonight I loaded up some 95gr sierra match kings. I'm also trying our some sig brass. I've loaded up 42 of them with a middle charge to get the brass fire formed. I'll report back on how these perform before I start my load development. (They are the standard match king not the tipped match king)

Was able to get out and fire form the sig brass with the 95gr smk. This was the best group I got with it today. I see some potential with this load but I'm going to quit using h414/w760. Going to try some extruded powder next time around. Also included is a pic of a 95gr smk vs a 87gr vmax.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181012/4aa47de628a9c0acdce682410850c585.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181012/9e87cac1dfc646dd7056eace8173dbe3.jpg

Was able to get out and shoot some more groups with the no developed 95gr smk. Excited to see how they will perform with some real load development. Also shot off a folding table in 31 degrees Fahrenheit https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181128/51b91ab93419a891eb70b372e8424b01.jpg

As of yesterday this build thread has come to an end. The barreled action was sold to fund my new project. I picked up a savage axis II xp preditor chambered in 223 from Walmart and swapped that in to the Boyd's pro varmint. This is the Walmart exclusive 223 heavy barrel with accutrigger model.

Savage has a Kick@ss 223 reamer/barrel setup. I had my 223 12fv out today, crazy what a factory gun can do. Hope yours is a shooter.

So are we going to see a new build thread? I have to say, reading this from start to finish it was really impressive to see your groups improve over time. Well done.

I love my Walmart special in .223. It also wear's the Boyd's Pro Varmint. If I do my part it is a .5MOA rifle. Soda cans at 400yd is almost too easy.
