10 round magazine compatibility

Hey all, I'm looking to know if the 10 round magazine from the 10 FCP-SR will fit in a 12 LRP? I have the 12 LRP and would like another 10 round magazine. I have a Dark Eagle mag for it but want a cheaper alternative. The part that interfaces with the rifle looks the same as the 4 rounders and the Dark Eagle. I called Savage to confirm this and the lady was a little confused. She told me yes but there were specific 308 and 6.5CM mags.
So what gives? do they fit and are they worth the price?

My rifle is a model 12 LRP 6.5CM center feed top bolt release.

I just realized I put this in the wrong section. Can a MOD help me move it to the right area?

If you're referring to the newer 10rd mag, yes it will work - but it's not really a 10rd mag in my opinion. If you're referring to the older 10 FCP-SR that used the AICS mags, then no - different animal.


With the newer 10rd mag the 10th round really has to be forced in and is barely held in by the feed lips. Can't insert a mag with 10 loaded into the rifle if the bolt is closed - you'll never get it clicked into place. Bolt open is no problem (naturally). It's for these reasons I and many others consider it a 9-round magazine even if Savage insists on claiming it's a 10-round mag.
