What to do with a pre-Accutrigger, 12FV, .22.250

I've been a Savage fan for a long time. I lost my beloved single shot 12FV .204 Ruger in a house fire in 2009. Shortly thereafter I bought a friends 12FV in .22-250 and placed it in a Savage laminated low profile stock. I subsequently lost interest in groundhog hunting. Now I find this rig just to darn heavy and in a caliber I don't use.

I'm thinning the herd of deer rifles and now I want a lightweight accurate hunting rifle for climbing around the woods in southwest Virginia. With retirement in sight I'm also looking at some hog hunting in SC/TX and antelope/mule deer hunting in WY. Something like a Tikka T3x Lite in .260 Remington or 7mm-08.

I'm looking for recommendations on barrel countours and stock selection.

The donor action I'd be using is a pre-Accutrigger 12, blind magazine, SSS Competition Trigger.

sporter barrel contour and maybe a Prairie hunter (Boyds gunstocks) stock may be sufficient without being to heavy. I love the 260 Rem myself, but if you don't reload, perhaps checkout a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Then my vote is the 260 REM... Have no experience with Stockade Stocks though.

I weighed the Low Profile Stock yesterday and it came in a 3#4oz. Estimated weight on the barrel is 4#8oz. That leaves the action/hardware weighing approximately 2#6oz (Total actual weight 10#2oz). That's with no optics.

I've always been a fan of modifying savage factory parts to fit my needs.
Why not just locate a factory takeoff sporter barrel and a synthetic stock? It might set you back about a hundred. Then you can bed it, paint it, maybe shorten the barrel and Voila a hunting rig.
There's always the classifieds to sell what you have, and then you can find yourself a model 16 lightweight hunter for under $500.

Here's a little model 11 I turned into a carbine using factory parts and hardware store modifications for kickin around the farm and taking care of what needs shootin'. Really light and super handy with a 16" barrel and chambered in .308. Anybody that blabbers a 16" .308 wont get out there has been reading too much internet.

I've had the same "paralysis" when trying to figure out what I wanted to build too. Just too many options available to get to the same place.

As long as the trigger you have is "nice" or you're comfortable with the pull weight, there really isn't that much to gain from getting an accutrigger model. The only reason I prefer the accutrigger of today, is because of the extra "safety" feature that the blade provides, and the ability to adjust the pull weight some.

my opinion is that you have a good action to build from. take it for what it's worth...

If you already have an SSS trigger I'd say you probably would be going backwards. Nothing wrong with the old flat backs. Even though some specific parts aren't quite as plentiful as they once were, They are still my favorites for projects.

Decided to break down this rig. Started ordering tools today. I'll probably part out the stock and the barrel. Thanks for all the input.

Well before I take the final plunge and tear this this down.... How much is this rifle worth? There's an American Classic (used) locally that has caught my eye. Is it worth more parted out or whole? Specifically how much can I expect to get from

1. Factory .22-250 Varmint barrel, unknown round count
2. Varmint Low Profile brown laminated stock
3. Pre-Accutrigger Action with SSS Competition Trigger

I doubt the LGS will place much value on the trigger upgrade
