6.5 stealth left hand

I bought my first bolt action and being that I live in California, it's in jail until Monday. I bought a couple parts for it already. I got an egw 20 moa base and an apa little b. I got the standard base. Is this strong enough or should I return it for the HD base? What else should I know about this rifle? Is anyone running the magpul aics mags with good result? I plan on just cleaning it and shooting. I don't really believe in the whole break in procedure. Is this a good game plan?

Personally, I don't see the advantage of using an HD rail. EGW makes solid stuff and is good enough for me. The magpul AICS mags are very solid mags. I have a 5 round that is awesome in my LSS chassis.

The 6.5 CM has minimal recoil so no need for a HD base. As for break-in, I've never broken in any firearm I've ever owned. The whole notion of barrel break-in is little more than an evil conspiracy contrived by the companies that make cleaning supplies to generate more sales. LOL

Watch out for loose action screws and loose rail screws. They're going to loosen and when they do you'll be wonderin' why you can't hit the broad side of a barn...I loctited (blue stick) and torqued mine. But not until after they embarrassed me at a club match.

Thanks for the heads up. What are you torquing the actions screws to? I've heard of people tuning the torque of the action screws for accuracy.

I torqued both to 65 inch pounds (NOT foot pounds). I haven't tried the tuning process.

I live in SoCal and I have Stealth in 6.5 CM. First thing I did-I changed stock to XLR with folding adapter. Also I modified knob on bolt handle, pistol grip. Other than that-everything is stock.

I used once at 1000 yards in Piru Lake and it was super accurate.

looks good palmaris! I'm also in socal. do you shoot at piru a lot? I want to change my stock, but I'm not sure which one to get. I'm thinking about the magpul prs, but it's so long. I'm really digging your stock setup.

Thank you Sir. I went to Piru just once-road there like off-road and my car has very low suspension. Most of the time I am at Oak Tree on 100 yards or Angeles 600.
I recommend also look for MDT carbine stock. I haven't seen one in real life, but looks also pretty good https://mdttac.com/skeleton-carbine-stock.html One thing you need look really close is Length of Pull. On XLR stock after adding folding adapter I was need to chop off buffer tube length, pretty good amount. MDT is offering different length those tubes. In the mean time, adapter is better from XLR, looks like MDT adapter is for fixed stock s and might not look right for tube. They have images for tube, but no option to choose.
I recommend before you install scope, to remove scope base and reinstall with Blue Loctite using proper torque.
For trigger pull weight-just unscrew spring all the way till it stops turn and it should be very light. On my rifle it went to 1.3 Lbs consistent. Here, in the one of the topic I posted video with trigger pull measuring. I bought light spring and was about to change, but new looks and feels exactly the same as original, so I decided to keep original with 1.3 Lbs pull.
Regarding ammo, after I have tried almost everything, I found best suitable for my rifle is Hornady ELD-M 147 grains. I recommend download Strelok Pro ballistic calculator. I used for all yardage and it works like charm.

I too installed an XLR buttstock. Far better than factory issue as far as using a bag. I didn't go with the folding stock.
Regarding the AccuTrigger: I adjusted mine down to as light as possible (no pull gauge so can't quantify). Worked great. For a while. At about 850 rounds I started getting click/no bang. I checked and it appears that the surface of the trigger mechanism where the sear contacts it is badly worn. I just finished replacing it with a Timney. The Timney is made of hardened steel; the AccuTrigger is soft cast aluminum. Can't wait to try it out at my range (29 Palms Pistol and Rifle Club).

thanks for the tips guys. my trigger is breaking at around 1.5 lbs from the factory according to my cheap trigger gauge. I'm looking really hard at the xlr stock, but I'm still undecided. I'd like to get the mdt one, but I don't want to pay 300 bucks for it.

Well I finally got to take the rifle out today and it performed great. I put 70 rounds down the pipe with no major problems. Since this is my first bolt gun, it took me awhile to get comfortable with it. I still need to fiddle around with the adjustments, but I'm gonna wait until I get a new stock. There are a few important changes I need to make to the rifle. The most important is the stock. The factory stock is garbage and can't take a rear bag. The point at the bottom of the stock is not conducive for using a rear bag. Next is the bolt knob. I feel that it's too small to get a good grip on it, so that has to go. I also feel that the bolt is a bit stiff to open and it's not from over pressure. I've read about bolt lift kits, but I'm not sure how well they work or if it'll loosen a bit with more use. My last gripe is the magazine. I had a couple of mis feeds and I didn't even load it to max capacity. I'm gonna get magpul mags to see how the hold up. All in all it's a great rifle that is capable of sub moa if you do your part.

How did you know to torque to 65 inch pounds. There is nothing in the manual about it and Savage hasn't answered my email about torque values. Also want to know what to torque scope rail to.

I don't remember where I read it. I think it was from the aluminium chassis manufacturer. Or someone's post on another site that had done the research. Sorry - I wish I could quote it for you.
However, it works. It hasn't loosened up again (850 rounds through) and it's shooting great. I went to the range this morning and shot 20 - 5 shot groups from 100 to 500 yards (max at our range. All were under 1 moa. I had 3 groups under 0.25 moa. Average for the day was 0.69 moa. Good enough for me!

Thanks for replying. I think you may have found it on the manufacturers site. I gave up on hearing from Savage and found their site (manufacturer) and saw it there.

Man pretty bummed out. I bought a prs stock and went to put it on and it doesn't fit. Looks like it's a commercial buffer tube, so I gotta buy a mil spec tube. Also I tried to take the tube off, but it's on so tight.
